Born Of The Storm
Born Of The Storm
Most things seek shelter from the storm. Some things are created by it. "Born Of The Storm" explores power in its most elemental form. A horse erupts from a torrent of water, motion, and chaos, its body seemingly woven from the same force that surrounds it. The distinction between creature and storm begins to disappear. The horse has long symbolized freedom, strength, and endurance. Here, it becomes something older. Less civilized. Less concerned with control. The piece challenges the comforting illusion that we must always seek safety from the tempest. It asks a more difficult question: What if the chaos we fear is not meant to destroy us, but to forge us?
Hand-burned into solid basswood through an irreversible process of fire and steel, every mark becomes permanent. There are no corrections. No retreat. The medium itself mirrors the reality of elemental power. Every choice leaves evidence. Every strike of heat leaves scars. The torch shading work adds dramatic depth and intensity, enhancing the visual narrative of the tempest's fury. The stallion emerges from a landscape consumed by conflict, standing between absolute wildness and the forces that seek to contain it. It is not depicted as domesticated. It is depicted as nature itself. That distinction matters. Because the work examines a force that cannot be confined, proving that the storm is not the obstacle—the storm is the origin. "Born Of The Storm" is a meditation on primal power, resilience, transformation, and the untamed spirit that thrives where others break. Some things survive chaos. Others are born from it.
This artwork is created entirely by hand from start to finish. The artist redraws the composition freehand for every burn—never traced, never mechanically transferred, never copied. Even when revisiting the same subject, each execution develops its own variations in line work, depth, and texture, ensuring every finished piece is a singular physical work.
Offered in a 12” × 18” format and available with White, Black, or Brown framing, "Born Of The Storm" invites profound contemplation on the majesty of elemental power and the wild spirit of survival.
