Fire Horse

Some things are not driven. They are already in motion. This piece does not depict a horse at rest, nor one being guided. It captures something mid-state—caught between form and force, where identity begins to blur with the energy that moves it. The lines fracture and stretch, suggesting heat rather than structure. The figure is still recognizable, but no longer entirely stable. What defines it is no longer its shape, but the intensity running through it. This is not movement in a direction. It is momentum without restraint. Fire does not ask where it should go. It spreads. It consumes. It becomes the dominant force within whatever contains it. The same can be said for what drives us. There is no clear boundary here between control and surrender—only the sense that something has already taken hold, and will continue until there is nothing left to resist it.

Each mark was burned directly into solid basswood using controlled heat, with additional depth and dramatic contrast achieved through torch shading work. No erasure. No correction. No reversal. The medium reflects the subject. What is shaped by fire… is never untouched by it.

This artwork is created entirely by hand from start to finish. The artist redraws the composition freehand for every burn—never traced, never mechanically transferred, never copied. Even when revisiting the same subject, each execution develops its own variations in line work, depth, and texture, ensuring every finished piece is a singular physical work.

Offered in a 12” × 18” and available with White, Black, or Brown framing, "Fire Horse" commands attention through its dynamic portrayal of untamed energy and inherent drive.
