Ink & Gourd
Ink & Gourd explores the quiet tension between restraint and exposure — a moment suspended between vulnerability and control. The imagery centers on a solitary human figure bent forward, grounded, and contained within itself. There is no spectacle here, only presence. The figure is not performing strength — it is enduring it.
This piece reflects the internal weight carried when expression is limited and pressure becomes internalized. It captures a moment where emotion is held rather than released, emphasizing stillness over movement and resolve over reaction.
This artwork is created entirely by hand from start to finish. The artist redraws the composition freehand for every burn — never traced, never mechanically transferred, never copied. Even when revisiting the same subject, each execution develops its own variations in line work, burn depth, and texture, ensuring every finished piece remains a singular physical work.
Burned directly into solid basswood using a handheld wood-burning tool, this piece required extensive focused labor to complete. The natural grain of the wood actively influences the final outcome, interacting with each burn line in ways that cannot be controlled or replicated. This is not a print or reproduction — it is an original wood-burned artwork permanently etched into the surface.
Offered in a 12” × 18” format and available with White, Black, or Brown framing, Ink & Gourd carries a restrained but commanding visual presence. It is well suited for private collections, studios, offices, or gallery environments where the work is meant to be observed, not explained.
