Release

Release captures the moment of surrender — not defeat, but liberation through exposure. The figure is rendered in an unapologetic posture, body arched and unguarded, framed by intense contrast and saturated color. It reflects the tension between restraint and release, control and abandon, where vulnerability becomes power.

This artwork is created entirely by hand from start to finish. The artist redraws the composition freehand for every burn — never traced, never mechanically transferred, never copied. Each execution develops its own variations in line weight, depth, and texture. No two burns can ever be identical.

Burned into solid basswood using a handheld wood-burning tool, this piece required over 25 hours of focused, uninterrupted labor. After the burn is complete, select areas are hand-painted to intensify contrast and emotional impact while preserving the integrity of the burned lines. The natural grain of the wood actively influences the final result, interacting with both burn and pigment in ways that cannot be controlled or repeated. This is not a print or reproduction — it is an original mixed-media wood-burned artwork permanently etched into the surface.

Offered in a 12” × 18” format and available with White, Black, or Brown framing, Release commands attention in any private collection, studio, or gallery setting. It is meant to confront comfort zones, not decorate around them.

No shortcuts.
